Evangelical Service

In the early Church, evangelists were men who were associated with the Apostles in the proclamation of the Gospel. Today - at the Casa Franciscana Mission, the Franciscan Friars of St. Barbara Province assist the Friars of the Junipero Serra Province in providing pastoral care of the community.

Fr. Eliaz Galvez, OFM, brings Liturgy and Eucharist to his community as well as to the inmates at the CERESO prison, and feeds the homeless an evening meal in front of the Casa each day. Evangelization through living the Gospel, walking in the footsteps of St. Francis, and answering the call of God to serve the least of our brothers and sisters.

The Chaplain of the Mission, Brother David Paz OFM, brings his organizational skills and a calming presence to the busy activities of the Social Outreach Programs. Br. David is fluent in Spanish and knows the culture well having served for a number of years in Guatemala and Peru.

FR. Mel Jurisch, OFM, former Provincial of the St. Barbara Province observed that, "You cannot help but be moved by what you see and hear in Guaymas. There is such dedication on everyone´s part that you know it is the work of God."
