Medical Mission

Love isn't alive unless you give it to someone!
Love isn't real until you share it!

Once each month, a group of children and their mothers travel to Phoenix from Guaymas for diagnosis and treatment of unique health problems as part of the Shriners' Medical Program. These are generally conditions such as severe burns, cardiac and respiratory problems, or serious orthopedic problems for which they have not been able to receive effective treatment in Guaymas. These children receive free medical treatment until they are 18 and sometimes beyond that.

This Medical Mission is made possible by a cooperative effort of the Casa Franciscana Medical Clinic in Guaymas, Shriners of North America and the Casa Franciscana Outreach volunteer host families.

Brother Ivo Tonek, ofm accompanies the children and their mothers to the Shriners Phoenix Clinic. Following morning appointments and lunch, Brother Ivo brings the children and their mothers to the Franciscan Renewal Center where they meet their host family. Volunteer families welcome them into their homes giving them food, rest and loving hospitality. As their guests leave the following day, hosts are left humbled by the experience and awed by the spirit and resiliency of these children and their mothers.
