the pilgrim program
Pilgrimage to the Casa Franciscana mission is an experience of God's unending and unlimited love made manifest among us through the poor, the lowly, the uncomplicated and completely authentic people and places of Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. Visiting and experiencing the Franciscan sites of the mission frees the pilgrim to make present in one's own life the beautiful and mysterious interventions of our Creator Father on earth and within our human existence.
Pilgrims travel together by van from Phoenix, through Nogales into Mexico and to the historic fishing port of Guaymas, on the Sea of Cortez, a trip of about 425 miles. While in Guaymas, the pilgrims live in the mission owned Casa de Junipero Serra guest house where they share meals, prayers and camaraderie. From that venue, the mission chapels, social programs, educational and spiritual sites are experienced. |

As with all pilgrimages, the pilgrims do not go to Guaymas to stay, but to pass through a sacred and privileged experience that will change the pilgrim in unexpected and mysterious ways. The pilgrim returns to life in a spiritually aroused and humanly stimulated new way. The pilgrim breaks through the limitations of ordinary life to a radical change in understanding what it is to truly be the brother and sister of Jesus Christ.
Come and join us, for we, like Francis of Assisi in this life have only just begun.
