Honor your Mother. Mothers who are part of the Casa Franciscana Family taking care of their children with Muscular Dystrophy
Elionay is a grandmother who cares for her eight grandchildren ranging in ages from 6 to 16.  Two of the boys, 15 and 16 years old are very small for their ages and have muscular dystrophy.

The house that they live in is small.  It has no running water and a dirt floor.  The boys are immobile and spend time between their bed and an old sofa outside.  Elionay’s son tries to support the family by selling scrap metal. The family depends on the Casa Franciscana’s  monthly food boxes.  Elionay never complains, always has a smile and is happy to be with her family.

One of her favorite diversions is a visit from Fr. Tommy.  Fr. Tommy says that he feels blessed to know such an amazing woman and she helps him to keep things in perspective.

Teresita and her four month old son live in a shack made of cardboard and sheets.  She has a mattress, a grill, a few clothes and some dishes.  She is an epileptic.

Her attacks have left her with decreased mental capacity and unable to work.  She depends on the medical clinic for care and that is also where she learns how to care for her baby.  Her family lives in Mazatlan with her seven year old son.   Teresita  eats and showers at the Mesón de Jesus where she also finds friendship, comfort and assistance from our social workers.
