FEEDING THE HUNGRY

Meson de Jesús

Six days a week, the Mesón de Jesús serves breakfast and lunch to hundreds of struggling adults, many seeking a simple meal to get through the day or a reassuring smile. Family members also carry food into the hills for those too weak to walk.

Additionally, the Méson functions as a shelter from the tropical storms and as community center or oasis from a life of hardship. The elderly come to mingle, avoiding isolation and having a hot meal.  It is an integral part of the community and a respite for the marginalized residents.

Children's Dining Rooms

An additional two dining rooms provide food and refuge to children.

The Casa Franciscana Mission's dining rooms for children provide food for those whom might not have eaten since breakfast and are not served food in school.

After their meal, children at the youth center have time to engage in play while waiting for their parents to arrive.

Home Food Distribution

The Mission also provides remote food and care packages to the homebound. Over 12,000 food boxes are delivered to the disabled and elderly each year.

Migrant Farmworkers

The Mission helps migrant workers going both North and South with food, clothing, temporary shelter and other assistance as needed. This assistance might be the only food they receive for many days on their journey.
