EDUCATIOn outreach

Education is one of the few paths out of poverty and is a focus of the Mission.

At present, we run three educational centers serving 189 children in need.

Denise Nagel Youth Center

The Denise Nagel Youth Center was opened to provide safe after-school activities and now serves 117 children—including local youth and children from nearby colonies, agricultural families, and indigenous communities—who struggle academically, have special needs, or are out of school, helping them with reading, writing, computer skills, and homework.

External Tutoring and Mentoring

Our Paderocinto and Loma de Morocarit centers help us further reach outlying communities and offer a vital educational lifeline, addressing educational gaps through tutoring and mentoring for migrant, indigenous, and economically disadvantaged children. We aim to create nurturing environments where these children can learn and thrive.

Shoes and School Supplies

Shoes are a requirement for school attendance. Casa Franciscana Outreach continues to purchase thousands of new shoes yearly for students in need.

Through the generosity of the Shoe Program, some students receive their first pair of shoes and the opportunity to attend school.

Belles Artes Scholarship

Casa Franciscana Outreach provides 15 scholarships to foster a musical education at Bellas Artes (Fine Arts School) for talented but impoverished children from local barrios. Each student, selected after home visits, receives a $110 monthly scholarship covering bus fare, tuition, music materials, and concert attire. The school educates students in classical music and in the traditional dance and music of the Sonora region. Watching students perform with the Bellas Artes Symphony fills us with pride, knowing this support positively impacts their lives and future.

Laptop Computer Program

As an extension of our centers, we have provided over 50 laptops to children who lack access to technology. Each laptop is equipped with tutoring software, encyclopedias, and educational programs, enabling students to excel academically. Evaluations show positive outcomes, with many students demonstrating academic advancement and several receiving achievement diplomas as a result of this support overseen by staff at our centers.
