Dollies Making A Difference
Dollies Making A Difference is an organization founded in 2010. A group of Los Angeles women got together and began sewing cloth dollies to comfort children in Haiti following the devastating earthquake. They expanded the project to send their colorful dollies and, now, teddy bears to children in difficult situations all over the world.
The Casa Franciscana Mission was fortunate to receive about 50 of the soft lovable dollies and teddy bears! They were distributed to the children receiving care in our medical/dental clinic. The cuddly “friends” brought smiles to children who never had anything of their own to hug and to keep.
But Dollies Making A Difference did more! They provided a $2,000 grant to replace some aged dental equipment and to purchase instruments and materials specifically for children. Now, Dr. Pulillo, our kind volunteer dentist, will have the ability to restore and preserve teeth that are so often lost to decay.
Which brings us to the things that we take for granted – when our social worker reported to us that all members of one family were sharing a toothbrush, we were shocked. The reality is that many households do not have a single toothbrush! That is how deep the poverty is. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Kory Blythe and Dr. Todd Mabry over 300 toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss kits will be on their way to Guaymas. Dollies AND good hearts are making a difference! You can help, too, by donating.
