Dollies Making A Difference to the Rescue!!

As the hurricane season approaches in Guaymas, the Casa Franciscana Mission truly received a form of “manna from heaven”.   The roof on the Comodor Infantil San Benito (Children’s Dining Room) would probably not survive another storm.  Dollies Making a Difference (DMAD), an organization of amazing women came to the rescue with a grant for the repairs!    This is the Mission’s third grant from DMAD.  One was for children’s dental materials and instruments and the other for upgrades to the children’s dining room including an air conditioner.

The organization started in response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti when the group from Los Angeles, began to make dollies to comfort the Haitian children who were suffering great losses.  Now their unique and merry dollies go around the world bringing smiles and love.

Overtime, we were blessed to receive three large boxes full of the magical dolls and teddy bears.  They were distributed in the children’s dining room, and the medical and dental clinics.  The psychologists also use them in their therapy sessions.   A rowdy video shows the joy and enthusiasm of the children receiving their “new friends”.  As one of the boxes was opened, the kiddos literally dove into it.  Fr. Tommy was quite the referee trying to maintain order.   It may be the first time, other than our Christmas La Posada celebrations , that these youngsters received a gift.

The wonderful DMAD members also contributed to our recent children’s book campaign in honor of each of their mothers.   Thank you, ladies, for the blessings and happiness that you bring.  You make a difference and help us to make a difference.  What could be better than that!  We wish you peace and all good in your important work.
